Focus

The EH will be the first complete encyclopedia of Hinduism in the English language. It is being organized around twelve subject areas in order to cover the spectrum of Hindu culture, literature, thought, history, and religion, as well as art, architecture, music, and dance. Each subject area is headed and supervised by an eminent scholar as the Associate Editor. In some subject areas there are important subsections; experts in the field in turn supervise them.

The panorama of Hindu tradition and culture covers all aspects of life. In Hindu traditions, there is no strict separation between the sacred and the secular, or between temporal ends and the eternal goal. The EH will reflect this inclusive perspective in its presentation of all the aspects of Hinduism. The Encyclopedia's coverage will include all Indic traditions, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism, and Zoroasteriansim.
